Castle Hill is a 286m pink granite monolith that sits at the heart of Townsville, QLD. I visited this popular location before many times for both photography and hiking.
Since Townsville is located in the tropics, it is much more comfortable to start hiking up Castle Hill before sunrise to beat the daytime heat. On this particular trip I brought with me my equipment to capture the beautiful city lights before dawn. Many of Townsville's prominent landmarks are in this photo, including the Strand, Breakwater Marina, Port of Townsville, the CBD and the Ville. Cape Cleveland can also be seen in the distance, stretching out across the horizon. I can also see where I used to live!
